The Mastro Defence System (MDS) is a practical, reality-based self-defense system founded by Fred Mastro, focusing on effective techniques to handle real-life threats in everyday situations, emphasizing quick threat assessment, adaptability, and utilizing natural movements to overcome attackers, often drawing from experience in close protection and private security work; it is considered a "no-nonsense" approach to self-defense, prioritizing survival skills over traditional martial arts aesthetics.
Fred Mastro's extensive experience in close protection and private security enabled him to create a system focused on practicality, designed to address unpredictable street situations and not just controlled sparring environments.

MDS Hollywood
MDS Hollywood is an accredited Mastro Defence System school in the Los Angeles area sanctioned by MDS headquarters in Belgium and MDS North America. MDS Hollywood conducts classes at Pan Pacific Park in the heart of Los Angeles, each Thursday evening.
MDS Hollywood is headed by Evan Townsley, Level 2 Instructor in MDS, black belt in Aikido, brown belt in Karate, and purple belt in BJJ.
Evan brings a mix of several martial arts to his MDS teaching allowing him to augment the close quarters aspect of MDS with kicks, throws, joint manipulation, leverage and ground work.
